We will leave Cusco at 05:30am and head towards Marcoccasa (3400m) passing the village of Mollepata along the way. In Marcoccasa we will meet the horsemen and the crew and here we will commence our trek. We will start hiking within a scenic valley surrounded by snow capped mountains such as the Humantay (5217m) and the Salkantay (6264m). Tonight our campsite is at Soraypampa (3900m). Tonight you will have the unique experience of camping inside a glass dome. Inside the dome you will be able to appreciate the night sky and the stars above.

After breakfast we will set towards the Salkantay Pass (4600m) which offers an exceptional view of the snow-capped Salkantay mountain (6264m). Thereafter we will descend and have time to enjoy the change in landscape to lusher vegetation. Our campsite this evening will be in Chaullay (3000m) amidst the tropical forest.

Breakfast. After breakfast we will descend down into a lush dimly lit forest and admire the orchids, bromeliads and other plant species. We will pass coffee, cacao and fruit plantations. We will have the opportunity to meet local families at Winaypoco (2650m) and La Playa (2100m). Today you will have the opportunity to visit a coffee plantation where you will witness the cultivation and processing of coffee. Our campsite this evening will be in Lucmabamba.

After breakfast we will hike up on the Inca Trail to the archaeological site of Llactapata (2650m). Here we will discover this ancient Inca ruin and we will also have our first view of Machu Picchu mountain and the Vilcanota Canyon. Afterwards we will continue down to the hydroelectric train station (1950m) where we will take the train to the small town below Machu Picchu called Aguas Calientes (2050m). Accommodation is included in Aguas Calientes. Dinner included.

Note: In the ´Premium´ package accommodation is included at the Inkaterra El Mapi hotel.

We recommend rising early and going up to Machu Picchu at sunrise, that is when the magic happens. You will have 6 hours to explore this incredible World Wonder including a 2 hour guided tour with our local expert guide. By noon you will have worked yourself up an appetite. We have included a delicious buffet lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge. After lunch you will take the shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes where you will aboard a scenic train ride back to Cusco where you will be met and transferred back to your hotel.

*For the Premium Package after your tour of Machu Picchu we have included a delicious well deserved Buffet Lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge Restaurant which is located up at Machu Picchu. It´s a great way to finish your tour. The Premium Package also includes an upgrade to the Vistadome train. You may be interested in hiking up to Hyuana Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain.
